The Suontaka Sword - Stag Variation

This is a stunning variation on the original sword, which was found in a woman's grave in Finland. It is known that the grave dates from c.1100AD, but the sword form suggests an earlier date of creation (as early as mid C10th AD). The original was made with grip and hilt entirely in bronze. This unique variation marries the zoomorphic knotwork bronze hilt and pommel with grip sections in carved Highland stag antler.
